My Fall Shoe Refresh: What I’m Wearing for Everyday, Work & Everything in Between
Let’s Talk Fall Shoes
Sometimes, all an outfit needs is a shoe change. Same jeans, same top, a completely different feel! And after recently cleaning out my shoe closet, I was reminded that having options only helps if they actually fit.
Since having kids, some of my shoes just don’t fit the way they used to. I finally took that as my cue to let those pairs go, take stock of what I’m actually wearing, and fill a few gaps. A little closet cleanout turned into a fall shoe refresh, so naturally, I’m sharing!
When I’m choosing shoes, I think about more than what they’ll look like with one outfit. Do they work with the pants and dresses I wear most? Do they make sense for my everyday life? And am I excited to put them on? Below, you’ll find sneakers, flats, loafers, heels, and boots for busy days, work, dinner plans, and everything in between.
Sneakers
There’s the sneaker you reach for to get your steps in, and then there’s the sneaker you choose because it makes the outfit. Sometimes they’re the same pair, but they don’t have to be!
This mix includes sporty styles and everyday options to wear with jeans, leggings, and casual dresses. My styling tip: pay attention to where your pants meet your sneakers. A slimmer shoe creates a different shape than a chunky sole, and sometimes a small cuff or a different pant length is all it takes to make the combination feel right.
Start with a pair that works with what you already wear, then consider a fun color or detail if you’re looking to mix things up.

Flats + Loafers
These are the shoes I reach for when I want to feel pulled together without wearing a heel. A loafer with jeans and a sweater is such an easy combination, and a printed or studded flat can add interest without having to rethink the whole outfit. You’ll find classic Sam Edelman loafers, easy slip-on mules, and flats with a little personality, plus a few cozy options with soles suited for stepping outside.
One thing I always come back to: a flat shoe isn’t automatically a comfortable shoe. Pay attention to room around your toes, how the heel fits, and whether you’re working to keep the shoe on as you walk. Cute only gets you so far if you’re adjusting it all day!

Heels + Boots
Rainy school runs, office days, dinner plans, this category covers a lot of ground. I’ve rounded up rain boots, ankle boots, riding boots, and heeled styles, along with my favorite Bianka slingback heels and a polished cap-toe option for work.
With boots, I like to think about what I’ll wear them with before adding them to my closet. An ankle boot needs to work with the cut and length of your pants, while a tall boot needs a comfortable fit through both the foot and calf. Try them on with the socks, jeans, or dresses you actually plan to wear. It gives you a much better sense of whether they’ll earn a spot in your rotation.
And if you’re looking to dress up something you already own, try a slingback with jeans and a simple top. That small shoe swap can make the whole outfit feel more intentional.

A Few Extras to Keep Your Shoes Looking Their Best
After making room in my closet, I’m giving the pairs I kept a little TLC, too! This shoe cleaner is what I reach for to freshen things up, and I like to pre-treat new pairs with this waterproofing spray before their first wear. Just check that each product is suitable for your shoe’s material first.
For storage, these boot inserts help keep my boots upright, and these shoe slots are what I use to organize my shoes and make the most of my shelf space. Being able to see what I have makes getting dressed so much easier.
And don’t overlook your socks! These no-show options are perfect for flats and sneakers, plus this option for mules. The right cut makes a difference, you want coverage where you need it without your socks peeking out or bunching up.
A Little Refresh Goes a Long Way
You don’t need an entirely new shoe wardrobe to make getting dressed feel easier. My closet cleanout was a good reminder to start with what fits, what feels good, and what I actually reach for. From there, it was much easier to see what was missing.
Maybe you need an everyday sneaker, a polished flat, or a boot that works with your favorite jeans. A few thoughtful additions can give the clothes you already own plenty of new possibilities.
