Fall Coats & Jackets I’m Excited To Wear
Let’s Talk Fall Layers!
One of my favorite parts of getting dressed in the fall is adding a jacket. You can keep the rest of your outfit pretty simple and let that extra layer pull it all together. Think jeans, a tee, and a jacket that makes the whole outfit feel a little more intentional.
I’ve rounded up a mix of coats and jackets, from everyday favorites to options for when the weather has other plans. Whether you’re looking for something specific or just want a few fresh ideas, here’s where I’d start.
A raincoat might be a practical purchase, but I still want to like how it looks with my outfit. I look for something lightweight with enough room for a sweater underneath, so I can keep wearing it as the temperatures drop. Check for waterproof fabric if you need real rain protection, since water-resistant styles will only get you so far.

I love a classic barn jacket, but a cropped version in a fun print feels a little more unexpected. The shorter length works well with high-rise jeans, and the print adds interest without needing to do much else. I’d keep it simple underneath with a solid tee or sweater and let the jacket be the focus.

A long trench is one of my favorite ways to make a simple outfit feel finished. I love it worn open over jeans and a tee, especially when you can still see a little of the outfit underneath. It’s also an easy layer over dresses or workwear when you need some coverage but aren’t quite ready for a heavier coat.

For me, an updated denim jacket is all about the fit. I want a little extra room without feeling like the jacket is swallowing me, with enough space to comfortably layer a sweater underneath. Wear it over a dress or matching set now, then with knits as it gets cooler. If you already have a blue denim favorite, a dark wash, cream, or chocolate brown is a nice way to switch things up.

The higher neckline is what makes this jacket for me. It adds a little shape and feels cozy without needing a scarf. I’d wear it with jeans and sneakers for everyday, or with trousers when I want to feel a little more dressed up. You don’t need to do much else to make the outfit feel finished.
I also shared this one that is a little more structured. Use CARALYN15 at Good American for 15% off.

Some days, I just want to throw on something soft and get out the door. A fleece is an easy choice for a morning walk, running errands, or grabbing coffee when it’s chilly. I love one with a little room underneath so it layers comfortably over a long-sleeve tee or sweatshirt. A neutral will go with just about anything, but a fun color or print would be my pick if you want to mix things up.

I love a bomber with wide-leg pants and a simple tee. The shorter length gives the outfit some shape, especially with a high-rise waist, and the relaxed fit keeps it comfortable. It’s just as easy with jeans or leggings, so there are plenty of ways to wear it with pieces you already own.
