Let’s talk pillows! Riveting stuff, I know. But in my humble opinion, decorative throw pillows are a fantastic way to elevate and add a little pizzazz to any space, no matter how big or small. I’m pretty sure I even had decorative pillows on my XL twin bed in college. My love for them since has only grown stronger, so today, we’re laying into it… see what I did there?
Using decorative pillows and swapping out the pillow covers are great ways to swap out your decor seasonally and relatively inexpensively. Fun fact: I worked at a local home decor store in my teenage years, and one of the best tips I learned is always to purchase your pillow insert one size bigger than your cover. It will fit, I promise. This gives the pillow a fuller, plumper, and more luxe look! I’ve tried a ton of pillow inserts over the years and found that these pillow inserts (in several different sizes) work beautifully for us.

I’ve also found that swapping out the pillow covers rather than replacing the entire thing makes storage much easier than having a mound of throw pillows in your basements… Not that I am speaking from experience or anything. It’s also much easier to wash the pillow covers even though the inserts I now use wash nicely! Don’t be afraid to wash your pillows; I wash our bed pillows often. These ones are great hot and with bleach sometimes. I also love to mix patterns and textures that work well seasonally! For example, florals and velvet in the winter, brighter colors, and linen/burlap textures in warmer months.
