Entranceway Makeover

hello and welcome to

our entranceway

The room reveals continue! I'm excited to share a more in-depth glimpse of our front entryway. This is the first thing you see when guests come over, and we immediately fell in love with it when we first considered the home. As I mentioned in our previous Living Room and Primary Bedroom reveals, previous owners had several different finishes on the wood trim throughout the house, so we decided to paint it white to give it a fresh and brighter look. Here's a peek at how it looked when we moved in.

It's pretty incredible what some paint can do! We had our painter rip the carpet off and refinish the top steps and handrail with a slightly darker stain (unsure of the exact one used) and had the risers painted along with the trim and spindles in between. For all of the trim and radiators in our house, we used Sherwin Williams' 'Pure White' and the walls in this area are Benjamin Moore's 'Classic Grey.'

LEt’s TALK

STAIR RUNNERS

We went back and forth for months on whether or not we should add another carpeted runner to the stairs. It looked charming without out, but we knew that the carpet would most likely be a safer option for our dog, Walter and if we ever chose to have kids someday. We worked closely with Michael P. Design of MichaelPDesign.com and Room to figure out a functional but modern option for the carpet. He suggested going to Markarian Rugs (local to Buffalo, NY), and after many weeks of deliberation, we decided to go with Stanton Carpet's Rock and Roll in color ‘Golden.’

It’s all in the

Little DETAILS

The previous owners did not have anything between the two sconces other than artwork. It's kind of hard to see in the "before" photo. We replaced the existing sconces with these ones, and I thought it'd be nice to put a circular mirror in between. The area is tight, so I knew I needed a long and narrow table like this one which fit perfectly. Pro tip: measure BEFORE you buy, learn from my mistakes - ha! If I'm being honest, I frequently switch up the decor for this area but usually settle on some variation of these candlesticks, chic coffee table books, and golden decor birds. I have more coffee table book inspiration on this post! After photographing this space, we finally hung this framed painting up the stairway! I think the colors work nicely together. The one thing that we kept the same was the chandelier, which you can catch a glimpse of in a few of the photos above and below. I think it works well with our modern updates but still respects the old charm of the home!
