Rent The Runway Unlimited: Tips For The Curvy Girl

RTRpost2CM.JPG

HOW IT WORKS:

I've been using Rent The Runway's Unlimited program since August 2018 and it's safe to say, I feel like a RTR expert now when it comes to finding styles that will work for me.

If you're unfamiliar with the Unlimited program, you can rent four or more items at a time, swapping them out for new styles whenever you want or purchasing them if you want to keep it.

They handle the dry cleaning and insurance so all you have to do is throw the worn items in the reusable pre-paid shipping bag and prepare for your next shipment. You can heart the items and create short lists for different events or moments that you may have coming up such as weddings, events, trips or for work. I’ve created short lists for weddings, vacation and upcoming work related events.

From casual wear to formal wear, and everything in between - it's a great option to constantly keep your wardrobe fresh without the hefty price tag, and still keep your wardrobe fresh and updated. As you’ll see in the look above, I had so much fun pairing this Veronica Beard Bexley Dickey Blazer with my favorite white denim, I almost didn’t want to send it back!

WHAT I LIKE:

I've put together a list of my favorite brands that I have luck with as a size 14, 5”8.5 gal!

Adrianna Papell - Andrew Marc - ASTR - BB Dakota - B Collection by Bobeau - Badgley Mischka - Blank NYC - Cupcakes and Cashmere - Cynthia Rowley - Derek Lam - Diane Von Furstenburg - Donna Morgan - Draper James x Eloquii - Fame and Partners - Figue - Good American - Habitual - Hutch - J Crew - Jenny Yoo - Junarose - Just Female - Kate Spade - Lauren Ralph Lauren - Madewell - Mink Pink - Monique Lhullier - Moon River - Nicholas - Nicole Miller - Rebecca Taylor - Tart Collections - Prabel Gurung - Rachel Pally - Rachel Roy - Sanctuary - Slate & Willow - Soia & Kyo - Tanya Taylor - Tory Burch - Veronica Beard

My favorite things to rent are dresses, jumpsuits, jackets/blazers and tops. However, there are tons more options on the site such as accessories: handbags, jewelry, sunglasses, maternity clothes, kids clothing and so much more. When looking through different items, I recommend checking out the customer reviews at the bottom of each product, it definitely helps you get a better understanding of how each piece will fit your body type.

Here are a few of my favorite rentals and other items saved to my favorites, I will be sure to keep adding to this as I continue to wear more things! Some of my absolute favorites from these shots are the ASTR Faux Shearling Brooklyn Jacket and the Tory Burch Ellis Striped Skirt!

Size Inclusive Weekend Style with J.Crew

Thanks to J.Crew for collaborating with me on this post.

Writing this makes my heart sing because I have officially fallen in love with J.Crew all over again. Growing up, I always loved their styles but their sizing was inconsistent, I would sometimes leave the store feeling defeated. In recent years, they did a major overhaul of their sizing, including expanding their size range. I have to say, everything has been ON POINT lately and I couldn’t imagine stepping into summer without some of their styles! I’ve featured a few other J.Crew looks here, here and here to see if you like them and it seems like the feelings are mutual. Today, I decided to try something new and step out in these blue linen pants!

If we’re being honest, I’m new to the wide leg pants trend. I love that this pattern has black and white in it so you can easily pair a white button down or a black tee with it, depending on your vibe! I paired them with this white blouse, these earrings, the comfiest sandals ever and this clutch!

SIZING DETAILS:

Wearing my usual size 14 / large in everything and I’d say everything fits very true to size.

How To Professionally Whiten Your Teeth at Home with Opalescence™

After years of using the products and talking about them on social media, I am SO excited to be partnering up with my friends over at Opalescence™ to give a greater look into how I keep my teeth so white. It all started a few years ago when my family discovered their whitening products at the dentist.  Their whitening trays are designed to stay in contact with the teeth to oxidize the molecules that cause discoloration, without coming into contact with soft tissue. We all became quickly obsessed—so much so that we started purchasing the whitening trays for each other for holidays, no joke! The love affair continued when I learned more about their other product offerings, specifically their toothpaste.

Everyday Brushing
Opalescence Whitening Toothpaste

was developed as an easy and effective way to maintain a bright, white smile. It removes surface stains, but more importantly, helps strengthen teeth with its unique formula. It’s safe for everyday use with its very low abrasiveness, it has been proven to remove surface stains to lighten teeth two shades in just one month. It is also gluten free and kosher certified, so it conforms to the dietary requirement of people from many backgrounds. It is also the only Ultradent product that is available for consumers to order online and there’s always free shipping!

You can order it here and use CARALYN for a discount off of your order.

at-home whitening product Opalescence Go™ trays:

My absolute favorite professional alternative to over-the-counter whitening options. The trays are easy to use and a great-tasting way to start a whitening treatment or to use for whitening touch-ups. I like to use them right after a trip to the dentist and monthly, as needed for touch ups. With no impressions or custom trays necessary, you can use Opalescence Go™ right out of the package. The trays conform to the shape of your mouth by using your own body temperature. They come in two different options: Mint and Melon flavors and two different strengths:  10% (wear for 30–60 minutes for 5 to 10 days) and 15% (wear for 15–20 minutes for 5 to 10 days until desired whiteness.) I prefer the Mint and wear them for the full time. When I first started using the trays, I’d wear them for the lowest amount of time to ensure I wouldn’t have any sensitivity. Everyone is affected differently so be sure to talk to your dentist about which option would be best for you.

You can purchase the whitening trays through your dentist, their only authorized retailers.

So that’s the secret behind how I keep my teeth pearly white! I’m a true believer in Opalescence™, as I’ve said I’ve been using them for 4+ years now and I know you will love the products too!

New York City Travel Guide

Growing up in Upstate, NY (Buffalo - to be exact), I’ve always considered myself a New Yorker. Due to the nature of my career path, I’ve been traveling in and out of New York City alone for 9+ years… NYC is my second home and while I may not have true roots there, I have some incredible friends and favorite places that I like to visit whenever I’m there. Every now and then, I get requests for my tips and suggestions on New York City so I’ve decided to finally put together a blog post for it. I hope you enjoy! I will definitely be updating it as I experience more.

GETTING THERE

There are three airports surrounding NYC that will get you there, depending on what city you’re coming from you can find different routes / deals. From Buffalo, I usually fly on JetBlue to JFK Airport (JFK). You can also fly to LaGuardia Airport (LGA) or Newark Airport (EWR). Depending on time of day and where in Manhattan you’re going, it can take between 30min - 2 hours to get into the city.
If you’re coming from JFK, you can take a yellow taxi/Uber/Lyft (apx. $75) into Manhattan. If you’re looking to save some money, you can take the AirTrain ($5 upon exiting) to either the subways ($2.75) or the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) (between $7-10 to Penn Station depending on the time of day). It may seem overwhelming but trust me, it’s not that bad! People are usually pretty friendly in case you need to ask for help. I also use Google Maps and it gives you step by step directions of where you need to go.
If you’re coming from LGA, I usually just take a Uber/Lyft. I’ve only flew in/out of Newark a few times and pretty sure I took an Uber/Lyft from the PATH train. Definitely check out the airport websites and your hotel address prior to leaving so you have an idea of where you’re going! Under no circumstances should you get into any car with anyone that comes up to you and offers you a ride. Only use ride sharing apps or get into the taxi lines.

WHERE TO STAY

I’ve been all around Manhattan, the surrounding boroughs and Jersey. What area you want to stay is truly preference. When I’m there for vacation, I like staying in Midtown East because it’s so convenient from the airport and it’s easy to get around. You’re smack dab in the middle/ left side so you can easily go north, south and west from there. It’s also close enough to a lot of attractions (more on that later). However, you can’t really go wrong staying in Manhattan, it really just depends on what you’re going to be doing / seeing. I’ve also stayed in Long Island City and Jersey City (which can be more affordable options). I don’t usually stay anywhere fancy (I’m all about those Marriott / Hilton points) but here are some of my suggestions:

  • Royalton New York - trendy, authentic NYC experience, we stayed here for 1 night on our honeymoon.

  • Courtyard by Marriott New York Manhattan / Midtown East - not anything fancy but it’s clean, they’re nice there and it’s super close to the subways and my favorite bagel shop!

  • 1 Hotel Brooklyn - never stayed over but I’ve been to a few events here. If you want to splurge and get an incredible view of Manhattan, it’s worth checking out.

  • You can also check out HotelTonight, Hotels.com and other booking sites to get deals.

WHERE TO EAT + DRINK

NYC has some of the BEST food options in the world so you may want to be thoughtful about your meal choices while you’re there, rather than just stumbling on the nearest restaurant.

Here are some of my favorite places:

BREAKFAST / BOOZY BRUNCH

Essa Bagel - The Half Pint (boozy brunch) - Bubby’s - Agave (need reservations like 2 weeks in advance) - Crooked Knife - Tavern 29 - Essex - Sons of Essex - Sarabeth’s

LUNCH / DINNER

Sit down: Aunt Jakes - Don Antonio’s - Marta - Wayfarer - Korali - The Meatball Shop - Ribalta - Rosa Mexicano - Fig & Olive -
Quick eats: The Nugget Spot - The Plaza Food Hall - Eataly - Sweetgreen - Le Pain Quotidien

DRINKS

The Kimberly Hotel - The Plaza Hotel’s The Palm Court - The Capital Grille (get a Stoli Doli) - Last Light at Sister City - Boom Boom Room - Please Don’t Tell (call at 3pm that day to make a reservation) - Employees Only - ART Nomad

WHAT TO DO

There’s SO much to do in NYC, it really depends on your preference and what you want to do! You can shop until you drop, sightsee, people watch, see a show, the options are endless. If this is your first time in the city, you may want to map out the locations / spots that you want to hit and plan your day / meals around that. You can also pick a place to start and walk/wander around, it’s very easy to get around in NY.

The Chelsea Markets - The High Line - Westfield World Trade Center - 9/11 Memorial (very somber but extremely well done) - Liberty Island - South Street Seaport - Rockefeller Plaza- Top of the Rock - St. Patrick’s Cathedral - Times Square (something to see but VERY crowded/touristy) - see a show on Broadway (Theatre District) - shopping on 5th Ave - Central Park (check out Literary Park) - The Metropolitan Museum of Art - Bryant Park - Little Italy / Chinatown - Washington Square Park - DUMBO, Brooklyn (great view of Manhattan)

Garden Party Vibes with QVC

Very excited to be able to collaborate with QVC, I’d like to thank them for compensating this post! As the temperatures continue to rise, it’s time to shed the layers and reveal our best dressed selves. I’ve recently discovered all of the offerings at QVC and I have to say, I’m quite impressed, especially with how size inclusive they are! Any other QVC lovers out there? You know I am a full blown jumpsuit queen so I thought it would be fun to try out a few styles that caught my eye, all perfect for a day to night event.
Which one do you like best?

Look #1: Lisa Rinna Collection Regular Surplice Wide Leg Jumpsuit

This jumpsuit feels like you’re wearing pajamas- SERIOUSLY the most comfortable thing I’ve put on my body that is acceptable for wearing all hours of the day. It comes in 3 colors and sizes XXS-3X. I’m wearing an XL!

DSC08778.jpg

Look #2: H by Halston Regular Printed Jet Set Jersey Crop Wide-Leg Jumpsuit

If you’re a gal who loves a wide and cropped pant or even if you’ve never tried, now is the time! I find them to be so flattering on all different body types. This fabric is stretchy so it’s very comfortable and breathable. It comes in three different colors and runs from XS-3X, I’m wearing an XL!

DSC08853.jpg

Look #3: Du Jour Printed Faux Wrap Front Romper

How adorable is this romper? I love that it has a wrap front so if you’re nervous about the fabric riding up, the extra flap of fabric makes it look like a dress with the added comfort of shorts! This one also comes in three different prints and sizes XXXS-3X. I’m rocking the Black Multi in an XL. As shown with this KUT from the Kloth Amelia Lightweight Denim Jacket, also wearing size XL.

Level Up With Express

Well, my friends it is FINALLY spring. It’s time to level up your look with warmer temps and big events with looks from Express. I’m excited to partner up with them again this month to show you my leveled up look. In case you missed my previous posts, you can check them out here and here.

My friends at Express were kind enough to offer and exclusive code just for my readers, $25 Off $100 in-store and online using ring code (8129) It expires 05/15/2019 so act fast!. Terms and conditions apply, view here.

This season is all about bold colors, bright florals, utility details, and new proportions that can take you into every event on your calendar. From festivals, to weddings, to vacation, it’s time to finally get outside and play in the best Express looks. Many of you have been asking for workwear options and I’ve never rocked a pantsuit before in a bold / bright print so I jumped at the opportunity to do so.

SIZING DETAILS: I am wearing a size large in everything shown here and I have to say, everything runs TTS (true to size) if not, a little big. If in between sizes, size down! I’m a big fan of the brand, especially because they have become more size inclusive! I’ve found the best luck with sizing option online so if you’re a little unsure, order a bunch of sizes online and return to store.

I styled this white blazer and matching high waisted ankle pant with a pop of color in this pink cami (comes in 7 other colors). Don’t forget to accessorize! I thought it would be fun to layer these delicate necklaces and add a rainbow drop earring.
