As we welcome the unofficial start of summer, I always think it’s important to pause and reflect on the true meaning behind Memorial Day weekend: honoring the brave individuals who gave their lives in service to our country. As the granddaughter of a WWII veteran and daughter of a retired U.S. history teacher, that reminder always feels especially meaningful to me.
