My Workout Gear Refresh: What I Wear From Warm-Up to Cool-Down
Moving my body has become a non-negotiable for me… Pilates at least twice a week and as many walks as I can fit in between! In case you missed it, see more on why I started Pilates here. The weather in Buffalo doesn’t always cooperate, but having workout gear I genuinely love makes staying consistent feel easier. This guide is a refresh of the pieces I reach for, from warm-up to cool-down, or just for daily wear… supportive, comfortable, and practical enough for real life.
THE FOUNDATIONS
What I actually wear to work out
When it comes to workout apparel, I focus on three things: support, comfort, and smart layering. A great sports bra is always the starting point. This one remains one of my most-recommended brands for real support, especially for higher-impact workouts. I’ve also shared more of my go-to options in my sports bra guide, and for low-impact workouts or everyday wear, my wire-free bra roundup covers the styles I reach for most.
From there, it’s about pieces that move with you. Lightweight workout tops like this tank or short-sleeve tee are easy layering staples. This one-piece jumpsuit is incredibly comfortable for Pilates without feeling restrictive, and these budget-friendly leggings (available in plus, flare, and maternity styles) are shockingly good, perfect for workouts or everyday athleisure. Finish with a quilted shirt jacket or puffer vest for polished warmth without bulk.
FIT TIP: If your leggings are rolling, it’s usually a sizing issue. Most often, they’re too small, but they can also roll if they’re too big. Rise matters, too! High-rise styles can roll on shorter torsos, so finding the right rise for your body can make all the difference.

SNEAKERS & ACCESSORIES
Accessories are the quiet game-changers when it comes to staying consistent. The right socks alone can make a workout feel better, I rotate between these for walking and everyday wear, and Pilates grippy socks for studio days. Hydration is non-negotiable, and a tumbler like this one truly goes everywhere with me. These hair clips and hair ties are my everyday staples, and for tennis days, a hair wax stick is clutch for keeping flyaways in check.
I’ve also included a few practical extras I genuinely use and repurchase: Cakes nipple covers for smooth, seamless coverage, traction cleats for icy walks, and sneakers I’ve tested and love for both walking and tennis. None of this is super flashy, it’s just the stuff that removes friction, makes workouts feel easier, and honestly, more enjoyable!
LOOKING FOR MORE ATHLEISURE & LOUNGEWEAR?
Not every day calls for a hard workout… and that’s intentional, especially in this season of mom life. I rotate in athleisure and loungewear for post-workout errands, stroller walks, travel days, and time at home. The focus is comfort first: soft fabrics, stretch, and easy layers that still feel pulled together enough to leave the house (or get down on the floor). Because what you wear to recover, move lightly, or rest matters just as much as what you train in.

These are the layers, leggings, and accessories I keep reaching for because they support how I move… from Pilates days to walks and everything in between.
I’d love to hear from you: what kind of movement are you leaning into right now? Cozy walks, Pilates, something else entirely? Drop it in the comments… I’m always looking to learn from this community and try something new!
