A Curvy Girl's Guide To Shorts

If we’re being honest, I’ve always struggled with feeling comfortable with wearing shorts. Some days, I still do! However, about two years ago I decided I wanted to find a pair (or more) that fit me and made me feel confident. I think the key to trying something new (whether that’s shorts, skirts, dresses, swimsuits) is being open minded. So often we write things off saying “oh, I can’t wear that because x,y,z.” But the truth is, you absolutely CAN wear it - so here’s the boost that you may be looking for. In case you missed it, you can watch my IGTV here!

5 tips for buying & Trying shorts:

  1. In my experience, the styles and fit of shorts have significantly improved and have become more diverse. If you haven’t tried wearing shorts in a few years, I encourage you to be open minded and try a few different styles. Not all cuts/styles are created equally.

  2. It takes some trial and error. Like most things, you may not find the perfect pair on your first try. THAT IS OKAY! I didn’t either, but it’s important not to get discouraged and write them off entirely. I’m confident there is a pair or two out there for you.

  3. Balance your proportions and don’t be afraid to try something new. For me, if my shorts are on the looser side, I like to wear a more fitted shirt on top. If the shorts are more fitted, I like to wear a looser and/or long sleeve top. It takes some practice, so I like to pull inspiration from Pinterest by searching outfit ideas.

  4. Quality > quantity. If you’re new to wearing shorts, focus on finding one pair that fits you really well (even if it’s a small investment) rather than 5+ pairs that are mediocre. You’ll get much more use out of that one pair, which will make your cost per wear much lower.

  5. Confidence is like a muscle, the more you use it- the stronger it gets! Whether that means wearing your shorts around the house to get comfortable or putting a little bronzer on your legs, it takes time to build confidence. Be kind to yourself and know that I’m rooting for you, gf!

  6. BONUS TIP: for combatting the dreaded thigh chafing (also known as ‘chub rub’) I wear by using Megababe’s Thigh Rescue!
