What I Put On My Baby Registry

What I Put On My

Baby Registry

To be frank, one of the most overwhelming things for me throughout this pregnancy was navigating and figuring out the registry process. How does one tiny human require so many things? And don’t even get me started on the names of these items. It feels like a foreign language that I need to become fluent in quickly. That’s why today I’m excited to share a few things I’ve put on my registry and things that I’ve learned about the process.

After asking around, I knew signing up for Amazon’s Baby Registry was a no-brainer. I chose it because I know how easy it is to shop and return on Amazon, which I knew would be ideal for our generous family and friends who decided to shop off of it. It took seconds to set up the registry, and they have a Registry Checklist, which gently guides you through each category you can add. You can explore the list of recommended items and check off any you already have or don’t need. Add things you need to your registry from anywhere on Amazon —they’ll automatically check off items when you do.

You can also enable a cash fund for diapers and get convenient thank-you list tracking. Plus, Amazon provides fast and free shipping on eligible items you can send directly to your home. This mainly came in handy for us because I did not open gifts at our baby shower, so it was nice to have things delivered to our doorstep. Amazon also offers a 15% completion discount. To use the 15% discount, your registry must be active for at least 14 days. The primary registrant can use the 15% Completion Discount starting 60 days before your baby’s arrival date to 90 days after the arrival. I’ve used it several times, which has come in handy!

Five tips for creating your registry

one

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

. I enlisted the help of my mom, my sister-in-law, friends, and anyone that cared and would be willing to give me their opinion on what are good things to add to a registry. I even posted on Instagram and gathered a ton of knowledge from the comments on this post; feel free to read through and get your ideas! This can start your list with some “must-haves” others recommend.

two

BUT REMEMBER, EVERYONE WILL HAVE DIFFERING OPINIONS ON “WHAT IS BEST”

Okay, remember how I just said asking for help is okay? It is, but it can be a bit overwhelming when you’re hit with several differing opinions on the best “xyz” and things you MUST have. You have no idea what you’ll actually use or what your baby will prefer. I also got lost in all of the reviews and research, so keep in mind to take all advice with a grain of salt and make decisions that’ll suit your lifestyle and needs.

three

ADD BY CATEGORY

It was helpful for me to do a little bit at a time, dividing things by category. Amazon’s baby registry made this process easy because it is set up and organized this way, even offering best-selling suggestions. A few categories include strollers/car seats, nursery furniture, nursery bedding, feeding, nursing, diapering, bathing, health & baby care, toys & books, and baby clothing. I found it manageable to attack a few categories at a time. During the adding process, I just added anything I thought would be good, not worrying if it was too much because that brings me to my next tip…

four

EDIT DOWN

There’s definitely a sweet spot between too much and too little on a registry. Once I got through adding to each category, I started to edit/delete/save for later items slowly. Someone recommended adding every size and brand of diapers to your registry, which at first I thought was a great idea until someone said that you’d find your preferred brand of diapers early on, so maybe only add newborn/size 1 of every brand that way you can try them out and decide which works best for your baby. Once I felt finished with my registry, I sent it to a few friends to see if anything was missing or repetitive, and I was incredibly grateful for the feedback.

five

STAY FLEXIBLE AND ORGANIZED!

Somehow I got a few duplicates, and a handful of items weren’t purchased, so once the shower was done, I took inventory of everything we received. I organized everything into piles, including things we’d need right away, things we’ll need later on, and sub-categories of clothing, bathtime essentials, medicine/health items, blankets/swaddles, toys, books, etc. I put everything in these storage bins until I was ready to wash and put everything away. Once I was able to get a holistic view of what we had and what we still needed, I was able to cash in on that 15% off completion discount that the Amazon registry offers.

Here are a few non-negotiable items I put on my registry!

I obviously can’t speak to any of the functionality of these items quite yet, but I knew these were all items I wanted. I heard from several people that this muslin cloth pack was a must for burping, bathing, and several other uses I have yet to find out about. Some of the technology I’ve heard incredible things about were the Nanit camera and the Hatch light. I chose this diaper pail because you can use any kitchen bag with it, and it had great reviews. I plan to bring this sound machine and clip-on fan to the hospital with me, a dual purpose for me and baby (attaches to the stroller). These magnetic pajamas seem like a great idea for those middle-of-the-night changes, and I know several people who love this diaper bag! What are a few that are on your list?

I have already started adding a bunch of our registry and baby items that I’ve purchased to my Amazon Storefront list titled Baby Items, if you’d like to take a look and add items to your registry! When on desktop, you can add any time to your registry from the product page on the right-hand side of the page. On mobile, it’ll be right underneath the product photo. Feel free to leave any questions or suggestions for others to put on their registry, and I highly recommend Amazon’s Baby Registry! Thanks for reading.
