J.Crew + ModCloth Swimsuit Try On

Back at the pursuit of the perfect swimsuit today with a few finds from J.Crew (up to 3X and long torso options) and Modcloth (up to 4X). I’ve ordered nearly 100 swimsuits to try on over the course of the next few weeks. My goal is for EVERY body and budget to find something they love and feel confident in this summer. With that in mind, I promise to show the good, bad and ugly. Not everything is going to look amazing on me but I am choosing to show it all for two reasons. One- I realize the process of buying/trying can be exhausting and I’m here to normalize that not everything will always work. It has nothing to do with you, your body or your self worth. It just means it’s time to move onto the next style or size! Two- I only have one body type but recognize there are dozens of beautiful shapes and sizes out there so maybe by me trying, it will give you some confidence to try it out for yourself!

LET’S GET STARTED! SIZING FAQ’s…
My sizing in each suit will be listed beneath each set of photos. For reference, I’m a true US size 14, US 34I bra, 5’8.5 and I have an average torso (not long, not short). My measurements are bust: 44 inches, waist: 34 inches, hips: 46 inches. To make sure you’re measuring yourself correctly, follow the guidance of this post. I share this not to fuel a negative comparison game but to give you an idea that different brands/styles can run on different sizing charts. If you need to size up or down, it’s all good! So here’s to finding what makes us feel good, no matter what the tag says!

JCREW SWIM

WHY I LIKE: MANY STYLES ARE SIZED 0-24 OR XXS-3X AND HAVE LONG TORSO OPTIONS
I ALSO REALLY LOVE THEIR COVER UPS, I USUALLY WEAR A L/14.

RUCHED FEMME ONE PIECE
SIZING RANGE: 0-24, LONG TORSO OPTIONS | SIZE WORN:14 R
I was really impressed by this suit, I LOVE the classic silhouette and color options. I though the bust support was decent although it is a little plunge-y.

BANDEAU ONE PIECE IN LIBERTY FLORAL
SIZING RANGE: 0-16 | SIZE WORN: 14
I am a sucker for a new Liberty print so I just HAD to try this one, despite the lack of sizing. It comes with removable straps which I preferred to remove immediately for tanning purposes. Decent support for no wires.

RUFFLE SCOOP BACK ONE PIECE
SIZING RANGE: 0-16 | SIZE WORN: 14
Another suit I thought was beautiful, despite the lack of sizing but honestly I don’t think this worked well for me. I don’t like how low the back is but I do love the ruffle sleeve and print.

ALSO ORDERED: THIS RIBBED BIKINI BOTTOM (XL) AND TOP BUT THE TOP IS OUT OF STOCK IN AN XL.

now onto ModCloth swim

WHY I LIKE: THEY ARE SIZED XS-4X AND CARRY BRANDS UP TO 24W. THEY HAVE MORE OF A RETRO VIBE BUT CARRY SOME GREAT STYLES, INCLUDING SWIM DRESSES.

KELSIE ONE PIECE
SIZING RANGE: XS-3X | SIZE WORN: XL
I cannot resist a good citrus print! I had to try it out for myself. This is definitely way more low-cut than I thought it would be but because of the thicker band/straps, I felt comfortable in it.

IMOGEN ONE-PIECE
SIZING RANGE: XS-3X | SIZE WORN: XL
I owned this suit a few years ago in a different print and LOVED it. Unfortunately I’m a little larger in the bust area so I don’t feel as comfortable as I once did. However, I did give it to my sister (who is around my size but more pear shaped) and she looks AMAZING in it. Highly recommend if you’re smaller in the bust area.

THE GARBO UNDERWIRE + GRETA HIGH WAISTED BIKINI BOTTOM
SIZING RANGE: XS-4X SIZE WORN: XL
You can visibly see my discomfort here and how badly the underwire cups fit me. Unfortunately, if I sized up to a larger size, the band would have been too big. I definitely could have sized up in the bottoms too, they were pinching me a bit.

LINDEN ONE PIECE
SIZING RANGE: SMALL-4X | SIZE WORN: XL
Another deep v style, LOVE the print but unfortunately did not feel it supported my bust area. I loved the way it fit from the waist down though.

LAHANINA LIVING CROP BIKINI TOP + THE FRANKY HIGH WAISTED BIKINI BOTTOM
SIZING RANGE: XS-3X | SIZE WORN: XL
An all around no for me, dawg. The bottoms cut me in all the wrong places (wish I sized up) and the top made me feel wider (despite the vertical stripe). I think this could work on someone with a longer torso or narrower hips.

TANYA CROP BIKINI TOP + CLARICE HIGH WAISTED BOTTOMS
SIZING RANGE: XS-3X | SIZE WORN: XL
I definitely felt more comfortable in this one, I liked the adjustable ties at the top and high waisted bottom. I thought the print was fun, something different from the typical black.
