New Year's Eve Underwear Tradition
What the color of my undies will bring me in the new year
Back at it today for the last #FitTipTuesday of 2021! Thank you so much for your support and excitement over my undergarment-related content over this past year. You can check out previous posts and guides here. Over the previous years, I’ve shared that we wear red underwear for New Year’s Eve for good luck in my family. This is an Italian tradition but I never really knew or understood the origin of this superstition. This year, I’ve decided to dig a little deeper. I came across various colors being worn for different things upon my research. So today, I’m sharing my favorite underwear picks and their meanings. Which color will you choose?

Red
Good luck + love
Red underwear is often worn in spirit of bringing romance and passion into one’s life. In China, Italy, and Spain, red is also worn for good luck.
Yellow
SUCCESS, WEALTH + GOOD LUCK
Yellow underwear is supposed to help improve your finances and other successes. Some cultures also wear yellow for good luck. This is popular in Latin American countries and some say wear your yellow underwear backward or inside out.
Green
Prosperity + Nature
As the color of nature, you can wear green if you want to be more in touch with the outdoors. It’s also been noted that some cultures believe green will bring good fortune.
Blue
HEALTH, WELLNESS + TRANQUILITY
Blue underwear can be worn to improve your health, wellness, and tranquility in the coming year.
Pink
Love, Harmony + Strengthened Friendships
Pink underwear can help make you luckier in things like love, finding harmony in your life, and strengthening your friendships.
White
PEACE + HARMONY
If you need a little more zen in your life in 2021, white may be your color. White is a universal symbol for peace and symbolic of happiness, joy, and rebirth. It is a popular color to wear in Brazil!

It’s also believed that polka dots in the Philippines is a way to increase your chances of prosperity in the new year (the round shape of polka dots resemble coins). Wondering if rainbow or multicolored underwear counts for multiple good fortunes? Asking for a friend… 😉
