Black Denim Spotlight: NYDJ

In the winter time, I tend to wear mostly black + dark denim. This year, I’ve challenged myself to stepping it up a little bit. I’ve been looking for black denim with a little oomph. Enter NYDJ, available at Bloomingdale’s.

In case you’re not familiar with the brand, NYDJ (Not Your Daughter’s Jeans) are made by women, for women in all shapes and sizes. Back in 2003 when they were founded, comfortable and flattering jeans for every woman simply did not exist. Most jeans had low waists and fit uncomfortably, and if they did fit well, they were just not stylish. All NYDJ jeans are made with Lift Tuck® Technology, our proprietary slimming panel with a patented criss-cross design to flatten in the front and curve-contouring construction to flatter curves in the back, so you look, feel and wear a size smaller. Their sizing runs generous. With 66 sizes in regular, petite, plus, tall and maternity, I consider them a size inclusive win in my book.

WHAT I’m wearing:

I’m wearing the Alina Coated Leggings Jeans in a size 12 paired with their Velvet Burnout Peasant Top in a size large. As previously mentioned, their sizing runs big. I’ve worn size 10 + 12s in the brand, depending on the style. Here are a few more pairs of their black denim with a little twist:

STYLE TIP:

Treat your metallics like neutrals and don’t be afraid to mix. Although the black jeans I’m wearing have a little sheen to them, don’t be afraid to mix them with other textured fabrics (like velvet, leather, sequins). When in black, silver, or gold, treat them all like neutrals. They all go well together, especially around the holidays!
