Blackout Day 2020 x Fit Tip Tuesday

Today is Blackout Day! The day is about economically supporting Black owned businesses, a call to action to unite Black people in economic solidarity. Landing on a #FitTipTuesday, I thought it would be fun to share Black owned businesses with an emphasis on inclusive “nude” shades- because there are so many different shades of skin tones that should be celebrated! Here a few of my favorites:

Nubian Skin

Based in London, Nubian Skin believes a nude bra and skin tone hosiery are the basics of every woman’s wardrobe, at least in theory. For many women of color, finding suitable skin-tone hosiery and lingerie has not been an option for a very long time. Frustrated by the lack of skin-tone choices to go with her ever-expanding wardrobe, Nubian Skin founder, Ade Hassan, decided it was time for ‘a different kind of nude’. They offer four different shades ranging from Berry to Cafe Au Lait. You can shop them here!

Boujee Fit Shapewear

I connected with the team over at Boujee Fit a few months ago and I’ve loved following their journey. Their mission is to create inclusive shapewear aimed at providing quality effective shapers for all women. They are still in the development phase, check out their Kickstarter project to read more about their mission and vision! I hope to get my hands on a few samples once they’re in production.

Nude Barre

Erin Carpenter, the CEO/Founder of Nude Barre created the company out of frustration as a professional dancer and lack of inclusive shades for hosiery. They now offer 12 shades of hosiery, you can order a full set of color swatches of the tights material to truly match your skin tone in various lighting or try out their Nudemeter quiz to get started. You can shop it all here!

What’s your favorite shade✨

Salone Monet

I previously shared Salone Monet on my post of favorite Black creators to follow and I’ve been obsessed ever since! The thoughtfully designed nude shoe that highlights every complexion. The founder, Salone Monet turned a lifelong passion for shoes turned into a business. After receiving a degree in Communications from American University in Washington, DC, she created digital content for the federal government and trade associations while working in shoes and accessories.  Salone learned shoe making in Brooklyn NY, there she made her first pair of nude heels from scratch. I’m hoping to splurge on a pair soon. Shop them here!

Mented Cosmetics

Co-owners KJ Miller and Amanda E. Johnson were chatting one night over a glass of pinot and asked each other why it was so hard to find the perfect nude lipstick. That conversation sparked an idea, and that idea became the brand we are building today. They created Mented Cosmetics because they believe every woman should be able to find herself in the world of beauty, no matter her skin tone. All products are vegan, paraben-free, non-toxic and cruelty-free. They offer over 16 shades that you can find the perfect match with this shade finder! I just ordered the Gloss in Mauve Over and the Skin Silk Loose Setting Powder in Light/Tan - I look forward to trying and reviewing! Shop Mented here.

Do you have any other brands that you love to support? I’m confident there are many more I haven’t discovered yet. Please leave them below, I’m excited to check them out! Thanks for reading.
